St Mary’s Church Tufton is of exceptional architectural and archaeological interest and houses medieval wall paintings of national significance. The church is Listed Grade I. The chancel was ‘restored’ in 1887 with new buttresses and a new east window. The brick porch is also a Victorian addition.

We have recently completed a HLF funded project to repair structural timber posts supporting the belfry. We have repaved the narthex floor and reroofed the north side of the nave roof.

The porch roof is to be raised incorporating new oak framing in order to reveal the Norman doorway, which has a plain tympanum and vousoirs decorated with small saltire crosses. Work will start 2015.
